The Value of Adding Plants to Your Indoor Space

My indoor plant Oasis. Consider adding one to your space!

Today, we’re diving into the lush, green world of indoor plants and exploring how they can transform your home—and your vibe. Think jungle energy meets Goddess sanctuary.

Now, imagine turning a room—or even just one lonely corner—into a vibrant paradise. Mine comes complete with a 42” zebra and a Costa Rican stuffed monkey I picked up on my WOW travel adventures, nestled right in with all my tropical beauties. Yes, because every Goddess deserves a little whimsy.

Here’s the funny part: I’ve even snuck in a few faux plants. (Faux—a way classier word for totally fake. Like faux lashes… suddenly we’re all fabulous, right?) And these faux plants are all fabulous, too. They’re so colourful and convincing that I literally have to give myself pep talks while watering: “Okay, Goddess, skip the plastic ones. They’re fine. They don’t need a drink today.”

And guess what? My little oasis sparked some inspiration. Two of my sisters have created their own ‘Goddess spaces’—tiny indoor jungles where they do morning meditation or scripture reading. The best part? These spaces don’t need to be big or expensive. Tropical plants are one of the easiest (and cheapest!) ways to bring some WOW—and a whole lot of Goddess energy—into your home.

So why not start small? Grab a few tropical plants, pick up your watering can, put on your Goddess gardening gloves, and get creative. Before you know it, you’ll have your very own lush retreat right at home. And the best part? All your watering adventures are in one spot—what you lose in steps, you totally make up for in convenience. Sure, it might not help you hit that 10,000-step goal on your fitness tracker… but hey, at least your plants will be thriving, and any water spills are condensed to one area for easy cleanup, something we Goddesses appreciate! Don’t forget about stands! Marketplaces and thrift stores are gold mines for unique, budget-friendly plant stands. Mixing different heights adds layers, depth, and that cozy, styled look without breaking the bank.

Why Indoor Plants? Because Why Not?

Picture this: that one lonely corner in your home that’s practically begging for some love. Or maybe your home office—you know, the one that currently has all the charm of a dentist’s waiting room (and you spend way too much time there). Now, imagine the transformation once you bring in some tropical houseplants, a few leafy favourites, and maybe even a couple of sneaky faux beauties to keep people guessing.

Plants really are the unsung heroes of home décor. They instantly add life, colour, and a fresh touch of nature to any space—turning dull into delightful without breaking the bank.

Not only do tropical plants look fabulous, but they also come with a whole bunch of hidden perks. They help purify the air, lift your mood, and even boost productivity (hello, home office upgrade). And there’s something so rewarding about nurturing a living plant—watching it grow and thrive brings a sense of calm and fulfillment that sneaks into your daily life. And hey, if you live alone, plants make great company. At least they’ll be a captive audience when you talk to them… lol!

Who couldn’t use a little more of these benefits?  Imagine sitting in your own mini oasis, surrounded by lush greenery, feeling grounded and happy in your space. It’s like bringing a little slice of nature indoors—and honestly, it just makes life feel so much better.

Tropical Plants: The Exotic Roommates You Always Wanted

Tropical plants are the true stars of the plant world—bold, dramatic, and impossible to ignore. Sure, they might demand a little extra attention now and then, but just like any diva (pet, partner, or houseguest), they’re totally worth it.

Ready to meet a few tropical showstoppers that might just steal the spotlight in your home? Here are some favourites to spark your curiosity:

  • Monstera Deliciosa: With its iconic, split leaves, this plant is like a piece of the chicest, most urban jungle you can imagine. And let's be real, 'Monstera Deliciosa' sounds way cooler than 'Houseplant.' It's also known as the Swiss cheese plant, which is just as cool. I need one of these!

  • Bird of Paradise (Strelitzia reginae): This plant’s striking, bird-like flowers will transport you straight to the tropics. Just imagine lounging in your living room with a Piña Colada, surrounded by these vibrant, tropical beauties. The flowers are typically orange and blue, but I have a white variety in my sunroom and office, adding a touch of elegance to these spaces, where I spend most of my time. An orange-flowered one is on my plant bucket list!

  • Fiddle Leaf Fig (Ficus lyrate): The Instagram darling of the plant world. It’s tall, leafy, and guaranteed to make your friends think you have your life together (even if you don’t). It's like having a personal cheerleader in plant form, boosting your confidence and your space's aesthetic!

  • Bromeliads (Bromeliaceae plant family): These colorful, long-lasting plants add a tropical flair with their unique, spiky flowers. They’re relatively low-maintenance and thrive in bright, indirect light. I have four or five of these in different varieties. Awesome!

  • ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas zamiifolia): Known for its hardy nature, the ZZ plant is nearly indestructible and can tolerate low light and infrequent watering. Its glossy, dark green leaves make it a stunning addition to any room. The ZZ plant is next on my bucket list after a glowing recommendation from my hairstylist.

Other Fabulous Sub Tropical and Easy-to-Care for House Plant Options

Of course, tropical plants aren’t the only game in town. Here are some other fabulous green companions that are generally more resilient than topicals and will make your indoor space pop:

  • Snake Plant (Sansevieria): This hardy plant is perfect for beginners. It’s nearly indestructible and thrives on neglect. There you go, you not-so-green-thumbed Goddesses. Its upright, sword-like leaves add a modern touch to any room.

  • Spider Plant (Chlorophytum comosum): Thriving in indirect light, easy to care for, and great at purifying the air, spider plants are like the friendly, low-maintenance friends you wish you had more of.

  • Succulents: Succulents are your best bet if you’re the forgetful type. They store water in their leaves so they can survive your irregular watering schedule. Some examples are Aloe Vera, Jade plant, and the Zebra plant.

The Benefits: More Than Just Eye Candy

Adding plants to your indoor space does more than just boost your décor game. Here’s what else they bring to the table:

  • Air Purification: Plants like peace lilies and snake plants are known for their air-purifying abilities. They absorb toxins and release clean oxygen, making your home a healthier environment to live in.

  • Mood Enhancement: Studies have shown that being around plants can reduce stress and anxiety. So, the next time you’re feeling down, just talk to your plants. They’re great listeners and don’t talk back!

  • Increased Humidity: Tropical plants can increase the humidity in your home, which is excellent for your skin and respiratory health, especially in the dry winter months.

  • Improved Concentration and Productivity: Having plants in your workspace can boost your focus and efficiency. They provide a calming environment that helps reduce mental fatigue and stress.

  • Noise Reduction: Certain plants can help reduce ambient noise levels by absorbing sound. Strategically placing larger plants around your home can create a quieter, more peaceful living space.

  • Enhanced Creativity: Being surrounded by greenery can spark your creativity and inspire new ideas. The natural beauty of plants can provide a refreshing change of scenery that stimulates your mind.

  • Therapeutic Benefits: Gardening and caring for plants can be therapeutic activities. They offer a sense of accomplishment and can serve as mindful practices that promote relaxation and overall well-being.

Tips for Indoor Plant Success

Now that you’re sold on the idea of bringing the jungle indoors, here are a few tips to ensure your plants thrive:

  • Light: Most indoor plants need bright, indirect light. If your home is more of a cave than a conservatory, consider investing in some grow lights. After all, just like us humans, plants need a little "sunshine" to brighten their day!

  • Water: Resist the urge to overwater. Most plants prefer to dry out a bit between waterings. When in doubt, stick your finger in the soil. If it feels dry, it’s time for a little hydration. Plants are like humans in this respect, too!

  • Humidity: Tropical plants love humidity. If your home is on the dry side, consider misting your plants or placing them on a tray of water and pebbles. Think of it as creating a mini oasis for your botanical buddies. After all, even the most divine beings need a little moisture to thrive! And just like a spa day rejuvenates us Goddesses, a humid environment refreshes and invigorates our leafy companions.

Goddess Takeaway

Bringing plants indoors isn’t just about adding pretty décor—it’s about creating a space that feels alive, calming, and uniquely your own. Tropicals (and their easy-going cousins, aka house plants) add colour, texture, and that touch of nature we all crave.

Whether you’re a seasoned plant parent or just starting with your first leafy friend, there’s a perfect plant out there waiting for you. So go ahead—embrace the jungle vibes, mix in a few quirky touches, and watch your home transform into a lush, green sanctuary.

And remember: plants aren’t just beautiful… they’re affordable, joyful, and maybe even the best roommates you’ll ever have.

If you found yourself nodding, smiling, or even shouting a big “Hell ya!” while reading, then maybe it’s time to add a few new leafy companions of the botanical kind to your world! Plants have a funny way of sparking joy, passion, and creativity… and honestly, couldn’t we all use a little more of that Goddess glow?
