Daily Joy: How to Add a Little Whimsy to Your Life

I took this picture during a visit to the Dubai Miracle Gardens in 2018.

Life doesn’t always need to be serious, polished, or practical. Sometimes joy sneaks in through the unexpected—a playful twist, a quirky detail, or a childlike surprise that makes you smile or laugh and perks up your day for a precious moment. That, Goddess, is everyday whimsy, and doesn't it look absolutely fabulous on you?

For this first Whimsical WOWs blog, I decided to mix things up and pull a few whimsical delights from across other Wealth of WOW categories. Think of it as a glittery sampler platter of whimsy—a splattering of ideas to brighten your day, inspire creative projects, or maybe even turn a chore into something cheeky and fun.

Whimsy is more than decoration—it’s a lens, a way of seeing the world with delight. It’s how we turn the ordinary into the extraordinary, adding just a touch of sparkle to everyday life.

So come along, Goddess—in this blog, we’ll explore how whimsy weaves through Travel, Nature, Food, and Gardening, and maybe even inspires your own little bursts of WOW!

Whimsy in Travel

Whimsy has a passport, Goddess, and it loves to whisk us around the world to whimsical destinations that feel straight out of a fairy tale.

Case in point: the Dubai Miracle Garden—a living wonderland of over 150 million (yes, with an M!) flowers. Imagine strolling under giant floral arches, posing beside heart-shaped gardens, and gasping at the sight of a life-sized airplane covered head-to-toe in blossoms. This whimsical travel destination encompasses several WOW categories at once: gardening, nature, and travel.

Travel like this isn’t just sightseeing—it’s stepping into a storybook. But here’s the thing—you don’t need to fly halfway around the world to find whimsy. It’s tucked into local botanical gardens, quirky roadside attractions, mural-painted alleys, or even a tiny town café with a personality all its own. WOWs and whimsy are everywhere; you just have to keep your eyes (and heart) open to them.

Try this: Even if you’re not hopping on a plane, add travel whimsy by creating a “destination dinner” at home. Enjoy an Italian night with a pizza-making station, or a Mexican night with candles and vibrant dishes. Wanderlust meets whimsy meets food. And since we’ve already landed at the dinner table, let’s talk about whimsy in food.

Whimsy in Food

And since we’ve already landed at the dinner table, let’s talk about whimsy in food. Food is meant to nourish, yes—but also to delight. Think rainbow sprinkles on a cupcake, a fruit salad shaped like a flower, or even breakfast-for-dinner just because it's whimsical!

Food whimsy is full permission to child-like play—with your food, your ingredients, even your cutlery (and yes, going totally hands-on can be whimsical too, after all, someone had to teach you how to use a spoon).

Serve your next snack in mismatched teacups (finally, a reason to dust off Grannie’s bone china!), drizzle chocolate on fruit in silly patterns (or go really wild and add caramel to the mix), or bake cookies shaped like stars even though it’s nowhere near Christmas baking season.

Whimsy in food isn’t about gourmet—it’s about giggles, WOWs, and childlike creativity at play.

Whimsy in Nature

Of course, whimsy isn’t only found on our plates—it’s sprinkled all around us outdoors, too. Step outside, and you’ll see it: wildflowers popping up through cracks in the concrete, or a dragonfly suddenly fluttering past at just the right moment (dragonflies are a spiritual sign of transformation and a reminder to embrace growthhow Goddess-worthy is that?).

Whimsy in nature—or what I call whimsical outdoor ideas—reminds us that joy doesn’t have to be planted. Sometimes, it just blooms wherever it darn well pleases.

Try this: Collect smooth stones and paint them with playful designs—mushrooms, suns, fairy doors, or anything that sparks your creativity (or let’s be realistic—your Goddess artistic talent, or lack thereof… lol). Then tuck them into your garden or along a walking path for instant whimsical garden magic. Or, channel my bias (lol) and paint them in shades of purples, blues, and pinks, then place them in the shape of a dragonfly. I’ve painted lots of rocks with my grandchildren—ladybugs and smiley face rocks are always a hit (and honestly, about the extent of what this grandma can manage artistically!)

Whimsy in Gardening

Gardens are already magical, but a touch of whimsy turns them into living WOW stories. A bright pink door on your garden shed, flowers planted in rain boots your kids outgrew (bonus: the holes make perfect drainage!), or a tiny gnome tucked beneath your favorite flowers—these touches transform gardening into play.

Me? I once rescued a four-foot-tall, cement-like Goddess statue someone had discarded by the road. (Picture me and my sister heaving her into the car—a whole workout! 💪) I nestled her into my rose bed—now home to over fifty hybrid tea rose bushes—crowned her with a colorful floral garland, and named her Goddess Rose.

She’s now officially on duty to keep those pesky Japanese beetles away (every rose bed needs a guardian, right?). Truth be told, she’s failing miserably at her post—(maybe I should consider paying her to step up her game!) Still, every time I see her, she makes me smile. That’s whimsy, and she's a WOW!

You'll meet her in a future rose gardening blog—so be sure to join my Goddess Tribe Email community at the link below to stay in touch with future blogs and other fun surprises.

Try this: Next time you’re in your garden center, pick one plant just because it makes you smile. No plan, no rules—just whimsy in bloom. My personal favorite? I have a bright, sunshine-yellow, square-shaped ceramic container, and each year, I place a bold yellow Gerbera daisy plant right in the center of it, then set it on my outdoor dining table. Instant Goddess smile. Instant happiness.

Goddess Takeaway

Whimsy reminds us that joy doesn’t have to be grand to be magical. A rock painted with a smile, a rainbow of sprinkles on a cupcake, a garden bursting with imagination and creativity—they’re tiny sparks that brighten our days and connect us to the WOW in everyday life.

So go ahead, Goddess. Add a little play to your plate, magic to your garden, wonder to your travels, and laughter to your days.

Whimsy isn’t considered an extra—it’s essential. The sparkle, the giggle, the unexpected WOW that makes life feel lighter...and when you share it, the ripple effect for your Goddess girlfriends is pure magic.
